-MY STORY-
My broadcasting journey started back in fourth grade when I was an anchor for the morning announcements. Sure, all I said was the date and what the cafeteria was serving for the day, but it still counts. At the time, I had no idea that being an on-air personality was what I wanted to do as my career. I vividly remember a career fair my elementary school held, and at the fair, the students had to write down what they wanted to be when they grow up on a whiteboard. At the end, my whiteboard was blank. I never thought anything of the entire process of setting up cameras, turning on microphones, making sure my hair was perfect for the entire school to see, and taking pride of how I sounded giving these announcements. At the time, it did not seem like much. But I was giving the entirety of that elementary school facts. Now that I am older, facts is the number one trait I strive to give as a broadcaster/commentator. No bias, just straight facts.
Now I am going to be honest, going into my freshman year I was selecting my elective classes online and I was deciding between culinary and the radio/tv course. The best decision I've ever made regarding my education was selecting the latter. I recall the first day of that class. Everyone was being taught on what radio/tv really is, and the history behind it. I told myself... "This class is so boring, why did I think this would be a good choice."
Our first project in the class was making a radio sweeper using our teacher's voice. I instantly thought it was the coolest thing ever. I was even more excited when our next project was to make a sweeper using our own voice. The second I heard myself for the first time from a high quality microphone, I was blown away. Despite everyone being shy and a little embarrassed, we all got it done. I told myself that the class was not as a bad as a previously thought. Never would I have thought that this class would open my mind to the amazing opportunities of the broadcasting world. Never would i have thought about me winning awards for the work I do in this class. I had no clue there were even competitions for radio/tv projects.
Now, going into my senior year at Crown Point High School, I am eager to show others and prove to myself my true capabilities in this field. I know what I am capable of, and I am willing to work my hardest to not only achieve those dreams, but to surpass them.
